The news broke today about Flash being made available to BlackBerry in the back half of this year, of course the comments went wild on sites like CrackBerry. However, the opinions vary widely. I’m not sure how I feel to be honest, I know very little about technical development with Adobe Flash but I know that there are obviously a lot of difficulties using it on the less powerful hardware of a mobile phone so it’s usefulness will depend largely on the execution and performance upon release. Obviously since I use a BlackBerry and a PC, I am not an Apple Chearleader but it seems like a crazy decision for them to shun Flash at this point. So much evolution in web technology will have to happen before it can be written off in my opinion. It would be cool if we are able to see it in action on a BlackBerry at WES although I doubt that will happen. I am quite a bit more anxious for webkit so that my BlackBerry will render javascript at a much better pace then it does now than I am looking for flash. What I think will be a huge boost will be the potential for developers to utilize Adobe Flash and Adobe Air to create BlackBerry applications, that part I find incredibly exciting.
What do you think?
